Seth and I graduated from BYU April 2007. Our beautiful son Simeon was born that May. I started running again in June with the encouragement of Seth and Lybi. Seth, Lybi, Laura, and their mom are the ones who really keep me running :P

So I was just reading some comments about my last post and thinking about some things and thought I might as well post them rather than wait until tomorrow (when I won't remember them anyway).

I'm glad I went back and read Lybi's race report from las April. It was helpful. I'm trying to convince Seth to run the race with me but I think he'd prefer not to. Plus it is really hard for him to find time to run. He really only has time Friday and Saturday and I don't think running twice a week is great preparation for a race (even though some have pointed out that many people run these kinds of races with no real training). Anyway, I'm not going to push him too hard. But at least he is being very supportive and encouraging about me doing this race.

Anyway, I was thinking about the ways in which I'm going to get ready for this race. I have been pretty consistent in my running for a while (even though I haven't been consistent in my blogging. Oops). Unfortunately though I haven't really been improving much. I've been running 1 to 1.5 miles between 11:30 and 11:00 pace. But in order to get ready for this race I'm going to have to get more serious. So by the end of this week I want to be running 2 miles and maybe in another week or two 3. I'm pretty sure I can even get to running 4 miles before the race. So that's my goal. Start running 4 miles a day by the week of the race. The race is on March 22 so if I can run 4 miles by the 17th or 19th I'll be pretty happy. Go me!

Kristina, congrats on the upcoming race!!!! That's awesome. I'm sorry you have racing baggage from HS. I never did ANY sports in high school, so I had no prior expectations. But I ran an average of 12:15 pace for my first 5k and wasn't even close o last. At one point, I did look behind me to make sure that there still were people there (ha!), but I was #181 out of 300. So, don't worry about being last - it won't happen! In fact, maybe I'll try and come down that weekend and run it with you!

Also, don't get frustrated with yourself if you can't run 2 miles by the end of this week. I tried setting mileage goals a couple months ago and got very discouraged. Let your body tell you when you're ready and it will be easier.
