Seth and I graduated from BYU April 2007. Our beautiful son Simeon was born that May. I started running again in June with the encouragement of Seth and Lybi. Seth, Lybi, Laura, and their mom are the ones who really keep me running :P

The Farnsworth Family is taking over! And it's all because of Lybi. Lybi is my sister-in-law. She came for a visit and we went running together this morning. After our run I thought it sounded like fun to get on the blog so that I have someone to keep track of me and help motivate me.

I had my first baby two months ago. At 6 weeks postpartum I began running on the elliptical for five minutes. Since then I have been running on the elliptical 6 days a week and have added a minute to my workout every day. I have also added more resistance as well. Today was my first outside run since I got pregnant. During my pregnancy I would do fast walking three days a week. Today we ran for 25 minutes and about 2.5 miles.

I was VERY tired after our run. I am in an online jogging class and we are supposed to keep track of or heart rates. We are supposed to workout between 60-70% of our VO2 max. For me right now my heart rate should be between 150-160. Today my heart rate was above 180. Oops. That's a bit too high J Now my legs and my hips and my abs are all sore.

I may have worked too hard today, but I still feel good about my run. It was good to finally have a nice long outside run. Also, the elliptical didn't say I had run 1 mile until I had hit 18 minutes. In high school I could run and 8 or 9 minute mile and even though I'm not really in shape, I didn't think I was really running 20 minute miles. That would be way sad. So it's good to know that I'm running about a 10 minute mile, which is about what I always run when I'm out of shape. So even though I am sore, today's run makes me feel good about myself. It's a lot more encouraging than that dang elliptical and that horrible scale that keeps telling my I've stopped losing weight. I also had fun running with Lybi. It's too bad we can't run together more but at least we can be running blog pals.

When Seth and I started running today I said "Seth! I think my hips are going to fall off!" They were really sore. The first few steps felt like I was the creeky Tin Man that really needed to be oiled. After we kept running the soreness went away. I didn't run as far in 20 minutes today. Maybe because I ran faster with Lybi. Maybe because I was so tired from yesterday. Maybe because I didn't get a nap today. Probably a combination of a lot of things. It is good though to take it easy. My heart rate was only 29 today, which is closer to where it needs to be. I also enjoyed running with my husband.

I was a bum today and didn't go running. After the crazy and wild family reunion, the elliptical machine is mysteriously broken. So now if I want to go running I have to go outside. It's not always easy to find someone to take care of the baby during a time when its cool enough outside to run. But that's not really my excuse today. My real excuse is just that I was too tired to go running today. The baby had a grumpy day and didn't really go down for a long nap. That means no nap for me either. So I just said I don't want to go running. Seth and I went for a nice walk in the park though.

I really appreciate Sarah's comment though. I'm always glad to know that there is still hope for me to lose weight. Seth says that us women like to just get around and justify our lack of weight loss, but really it's nice to know that I haven't reached the point of no return yet :)

Tomorrow the family reunion will be over so hopefully things will be calm enough again that Seth's mom can take the baby while we go running.

I appreciate the comment from Brent. I try to be active every day, even if it's just going for a walk outside with my husband.

Today Seth and I ran outside again. It had just rained so it was nice and cool and the ditch bank wasn't muddy but the dirt wasn't so loose, so it was easier to run. Since I hadn't run for two days I thought today would be a hard day, but it wasn't. In fact, today was much easier than Saturday. We enjoyed our run together and have decided that we want to keep running together as much as we can. After we move into our house, we won't live by the ditch bank anymore but we might still drive down to run as many nights a week as we can.

We have a non-electric tredmill--makes running hard but is good for walking. It's actually a fairly difficult workout. I might start walking on it in the mornings and running with Seth at night. That way if Seth ever can't run with me I will still get a workout, and when we do run together I will be getting double workouts.

I walked this morning on our treadmill for 8 minutes. Then this evening Seth and I ran on the ditchbank again. The weather has been great. It's been cloudy and close to raining so it has been very cool. I love running with Seth. It makes the time go faster and it is so fun.

I have a bad knee and it was hurting a little bit about halfway through our run. But it went away when I kept running. My cross-country coach in high school used to say that sometimes when you hurt the best thing you can do is just push yourself a little bit harder and you will feel better. Obviously that is not always true. But it's nice when it actually works. :)

Oops. I didn't run again today. Seth and I left at 8:00 this morning to drive to my parents house. Then when we got there my dad said Let's go fishing. So at 4:00 we went fishing and didn't get back home until 9:30. Then I showered, fed the baby, and ate dinner. Now I'm way too tired to run. Plus my parents live in the mountains so running after dark isn't the greatest idea.

I love running in the mountains! It is so beautiful and the weather is so perfect. The only problem is the lack of oxygen! Actually I am proud of us. My parents live at 10,000 feet. That's a lot higher than where we live in New Mexico. Last year when we came up to visit, Seth and I went running. We ran for about five minutes and we were dieing. It really bothered my asthma and I had a hard time breathing. I lost my voice afterwards and coughed most of the day. In short it was pretty sad. With that in mind we were pretty wary about running up here again this summer. Since we usually to a 20 minute run we decided to power walk for 5 minutes, run for 10, then end with another 5 minute power walk. So we did our 5 minute walk. Then we ran. After 10 minutes we felt good so we ran for the next 5. We ran for 15 minutes at 10,000 feet! Wow! And we still felt good afterwards. So tomorrow we are planning to start with the 5 minute walk again but then run for 20 minutes. We are pretty proud of ourselves.

By the way. We did not get eaten by a bear. That is a pretty great accomplishment right there :P

My mom has an exercise bike and this morning I used it for 10 minutes. Seth left today for Colorado Springs. He is picking up some furniture from his sister. He will be back tomorrow. So I couldn't exercise with him today. My mom and I went to town (which is an hour away) to go to WalMart and to visit my sister. On the way home I was really tired and wanted to fall asleep in the car, but my mom and I were talking so I didn't. I didn't get a nap again today and I was pretty tired and didn't really want to exercise, especially since I would have to exercise by myself. But then I thought of all the fire and brimstone chastisement you all would give me if I missed another day.

So we got home around 7:00. I fed the baby and ate dinner and was hoping to start running right after dinner. The baby was crying because he was tired and giving him to my mom only made him cry harder. So I took him to put him to sleep. It took a LONG time to get him to sleep so that by the time he was asleep and I was ready to start my run it was getting pretty dark. I took my parents dog out with me to run but as it got darker I felt pretty uncomfortable (don't want to get eaten by a bear just yet). So I ended up power walking for 5 minutes, running for 5 minutes, and then did 15 more minutes on my mom's bike. I didn't get quite the workout I wanted but at least I got some running in and at least I didn't have to end my workout with just a short run. I'm glad I was able to use her bike.

My total bike miles for today were 6.1 miles. When Seth gets back he is going to measure the distance that I ran (even though it wasn't much).

I got into bed around 8:30 pm with the intention to sleep for about an hour, wake up, exercise, eat, feed the baby, and then go back to bed. Well I didn't wake up until 3:00 in the morning when the baby got hungry. Oops.

Yea! Seth and I added another 5 minutes to our run. Today we walked for 5 minutes as a warm up. Then we ran for 25 minutes! We got out even further than the time I ran with Lybi. I was so excited. We are getting better and better and running is feeling better too.

But there was a downside! I got attacked by the mosquitoes! And for some reason they bit me only on the fatty part of my calves! I have like 20 mosquito bites on each calf and no where else! It looks like I have some kind of nasty rash. I hate mosquitoes!

Oops. I did it again. So last time I fell asleep at 8:00 intending to get up and exercise. Well this time I fell asleep at 6:30 intending to get up in about an hour and exercise. Well I slept until 10:30, ate dinner, fed the baby. Now it's almost midnight and it's time to go back to sleep. Lybi's right, I must have a sleep mortgage. :) I guess I might have to start exercising in the morning again.
